Prairie Dog Rules and Regulations

REGULATIONS
Resolution 2000-150 was effective 01/01/01 and states that all non-member hunters who harvest or attempt to harvest wildlife species, on all trust lands on the Rosebud Reservation, are required to have a registered Rosebud Sioux Tribal Member Guide.

Guide must be present or within a reasonable distance to be determined by conservation officer.

Hunting Regulations are covered by Chapter 35. Prairie Dog hunting regulations are covered by 5-35-1 General Provisions and definitions, 5-35-4 General Licensing, Hunting and Fishing Provisions and any other applicable relations. 5-35-5(k) Handguns not allowed.

All Hunters must have a valid license, Hunters, age 12-15 must also have a valid Hunter's Safety Certificate. A State of SD License is required to hunt on Deeded Lands. Children under 12 years of age may NOT hunt.

Hunters are responsible to know where they are hunting and the status of the land upon which they are hunting. (i.e. Tribal, Allotted or Deeded).

No Full Metal Jackets!

No Shooting from a vehicle or conveyance!

25 Caliber and smaller is permitted for prairie dog shooting.

No camping on tribal lands for non-tribal members.
