POSITION: Wildlife Biologist
SALARY: NEGOTIABLE (ACCORDING TO QUALIFICATIONS)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans research studies and implements management practices pertaining to habitat, production,
distribution, and natural balance to ensure sound management and conservation of fish and wildlife species.
- Manages, coordinates, or provides technical support to wildlife, vegetation and biological resource programs and projects.
- Develops or participates in the development of policy and planning for the Department.
- Directs or participates in the inspection and evaluation of wildlife programs and projects.
- Administers or supports the ongoing monitoring of wildlife studies, surveys, and activities to ensure program quality, effectiveness, technical adequacy, and compliance.
- Prepares reports of findings or contributes information to reporting documents.
- Ensures proper consideration is given to wildlife and threatened, endangered and sensitive aquatic species and species habitat requirements in land use planning, environmental analyses and
management.
- Provides technical advice and assistance in the implementation and evaluation of wildlife resource management programs and projects. Consultations involve assessment of wildlife resources,
species, habitats, environmental impacts, biological evaluations, and related regulatory requirements and compliance guidelines.
CONTROL OVER THE POSITION:
Work is under the general supervision of the Director of Natural Resources. Work is subject to review by the Land and Natural Committee. Activities involving prevention of possible violations of Federal laws, and compliance
with these Federal laws will be under the direct supervision of the Director of Natural Resources.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of principles and application of the Endangered Species Act especially section 7 as well as other major Federal environmental protection, wildlife, and Federal land planning laws
including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act (FWCA), Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Oil Pollution Act (OPA) as they apply to energy development on Federal lands.
- Skill administering, designing, evaluating, and conducting field assessments, status surveys, etc., and evaluating environmental impacts on fish and wildlife resources and related habitats.
- Ability to evaluate biological data and monitor/make recommendations and provide expertise on monitoring and conservation of listed, candidate or other sensitive species and other tribal
trust resources (e.g., migratory birds, rivers, wetlands and other sensitive habitats including effects related to environmental contaminants).
- Skill in presenting complex and controversial information to various groups both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- a.) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural
resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
- b.) Combination of education and experience - Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in (a.) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
- The applicant must have three (3) years of specialized experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Preference will be given to qualified Indian applicants.
- In case applications are not received from suitable qualified applicants, selection will be made on the basis of a test to be provided by the Natural Resources office and evaluation of
qualifications and experience of applicant by the Natural Resources Director.
